The Wilfa® process is patented and trademarked.

It involves removing the part of the wood that has been used in previous applications and planing the ends.

Reception

The barrels are received in their original condition. All barrels produced by Tonnellerie Navarre can be reconditioned.

We can also recondition used drums from other suppliers (225, 350 and 400 litres).

Treatment

The machine removes 4 mm until it finds sound wood. The original heating element is mechanically removed along the grain of the wood (unique in the world) so that it can be reheated to suit the customer’s requirements. The planed bottoms are put back in place. They offer a fresh wood surface area of 25%, guaranteeing the quality of the finished products.

Heating

Traditional heating identical to the seasoning of a new cask. Wilfa® drums benefit from the same traditional heating technique (Just-in®) as our new drums.
We adopt heating methods at the customer’s request.

With a capacity of over 1,000 barrels reconditioned per month, Tonnellerie Navarre can preserve up to 1,000 m³ of oak staves per year.

Black Scale Barrel By Navarre Cooperage

The Black Scale Barrel is the result of several years of research in our workshops.

This reconditioned American oak cask undergoes traditional toasting over a brazier for 30 minutes, then the inside of the cask is intensively charred to concentrate the aromatic compounds of the US oak. We created the BSB cask to meet the needs of whisky distilleries and rum distilleries.
